About my V Star

Just started riding again after many years. (Mostly dirt bike experience with my son when we were younger) Got my Star about two months ago and ride every chance I get. I'm wanting to go on long trips and would like to talk to other Star owners who tour on their bikes and how they feel about the performance. Nice to be on a site with bikers who just want to ride! Yeah! Let me know what you think about your Star and appreciate any advise. Be Safe, God Bless!

I have a 2002 Vstar 650 Custom.  Added mustang seat (love it - so does my wife), Roadhouse 2into1 pipe (love the sound (melow deep), HUGE torque increase between 60mph and 80mph), Kuryakan Twin Vel.Stack (can be a tuning nightmare-very temp sensitive even after LOTS of tuning).  Owned it since 2002(new), have 25,000 miles on it.  Live in Nebraska, been to Mountains of Colorado, South Dakota (Sturgis too), and Kansas City on it.  Longest single day trip (2-up) was 550 miles.  Longest total trip was over 1500 miles (3 days).  No complaints.  Check out "650 CC&D" web site for great info on this bike.  Power is about par for a 650 twin.  Even if tuned to the hilt, top end is 103 (about) due to gears.  Mine has been there.  enjoy

I have a similar one a 650 2006 classic. I have been on a few trips of 200+ miles and found it to do well with two people. No problems. I did add new pipes and jets tho and it made all the difference. After a long time without a bike and not a lot of money to spend this was a good choice for me. Happy riding!

many variables may affect the tour ability of your motorcycle. don't let engine size deter your plans. there is on the net several instances of people riding cross country on Honda rebel 250's!!! just be mindful that you only got some much passing power, that the bike cruises comfortably at 60/65 mph, making it a 400 to 450 mile day tourer, not like a big bore that will cruise at 75/80, effectively covering 500/600 mile days. load it accordingly (though it handles so well and it is light, so even overloading it a bit does not affect it that much. i rode a 99 custom model all over colorado, and my biggest problem was climbing over the passes (11000+ feet) where the jetting became an issue. I also rode a friends here in long island (30 feet above sea level) and found it that it pulled a bit harder than i remebered. and the latter one was a classic, which is a bit heavier. And pipes and a jet kit make a world of difference. #1 mod in my book. (dont care much about the noise, but it pulls cleanly...)
